Take any length of time to surf the Internet and you wll find what seems to be an unlimited supply of articles regarding the recession and how the world economy decline is going to put all of us in the poor house. As we speak (or type as it is!) there are about fifteen “leaders” of the world have “launched extraordinary summit talks on the global economic crisis” (this last part is courtesy of the Associated Press) in an effort to put in place a system that will allay fears of economic collapse. Just a wild guess is that unless you are a major bank or auto maker that is in financial crisis whatever they come up with will have less than a small effect on our individual finances. Tax cuts, subsidies, grants or loans probably will not reach the majority of Internet Marketers on a personal level. So it is time to check ourselves for monetary leaks and see if we can stop a few of them.
Quite a few of us derive a portion of our income from advertisements of one sort or another. And a large player in that advertising market is Google and Google Adsense. A large number of the articles mentioned above concern Google and how a recession/depression will affect their profit line. That profit line is what will affect us as publishers of Adsense ads on our websites. Accepting that changes are in the future with the advertising dollar we would probably be better off giving ourselves a tune-up before Google does it for us.
First of all we know that we do not want Google to ban us for any reasons whatsoever. It would not matter to you if Google ad incomes climbs skyhigh or the bottom drops out from it if you put yourself into a position of being banned. No arguement, if you cannot place ads then you will not receive income. As a publisher it has always been your responsibility to know the TOS and abide to them. Right now would be a great time to pop on over to Google.com and review everything you can find regarding rules and regulations. Unless you really like taking chances and placing the future of your checking account on the line you are better off following these guidelines exactly. If you are unsure regarding what you wish to post or how you wish to do it then ASK and attempt to get some clarification from Mother Google themselves.
Just a quick peek or two on what might get you banned from Adsense. Initially you need to understand that in order to take full advsantage of this program you must have a fully functioning site that is well optimized and provides unique content. And you need to know that you probably will not make your millions from Adsense clicks but you can create a fairly steady source of income. It is entirely possible that if the economy continues to decline that advertisers will either cut out the frequency of their ads or reduce the amount of money they spend on them. Either of these situations and Google can become even more cautious where they place ads and how much they return to you in commissions. So lets clean it up and grab our own healthy share of whatever is out there!
One of the greatest sins know regarding Adsense is click fraud. While an accidental click or two when you are setting up you pages probably will go unnoticed by Google they will most likely notice fifteen (15) or twenty (20) clicks on the same ad in a ten (10) minute time span. Best protection is to just not do it. Don’t ask your friends or family to click an ad to “see if they actually work”! Do not offer your newsletter subscribers any sort of reward or incentive for clicking. And above all do not hire someone “offshore” to spend their days clicking your Adsense units. Google did not grab their forty percent (40%) or higher share of the Internet Market by being stupid. Whatever and however you dream up as a scheme to grab a few pennies from Adsense and you can rest assured…Google has seen it before!. Just do not mess with it.
As far as messing with the codes you genereate for your ads. Link this bad habit to the same no-no as click fraud. There probably is not much on the net that is any simpler than generating an Adsense code for your pages. Just a few clicks and there it is to paste into your copy. Now just what could you possibly gain by attempting to change a number or letter. Well, I guess you could “gain” a banned account and then you would be able to change all of your old codes to your hearts content. I say “old” codes because you darned sure will not be generating any new ones.
So we know enough not to mess with momma Google regarding any TOS violation. Keep in line with what you are supposed to do and kick all of those gimmicks to the sidelines. If a fading economy reduces the amount of advertising available to Google for their Adsense program you want to be first in line when they pass out the high $$$$$ clicks. Again…not a millionaire overnight from Adsense sources but you probably can glean enough from the program to buy a pizza or two throughout the month.
